"Following on from the successful release of the 13 centimetre Pelagic Pirates back in 2003, Black Pete have released a larger version of the same deadly trolling lure. The new Pelagic Pirates are 18 centimetres long and weigh 126 grams, which makes them ideal for windy days when lighter lures get blown all over the spread, or just when you need a lure that’s going to spend a little more time beneath the surface than standard resin heads. Tuna species especially love weighted skirted lures, and the new Pirates have been doing good trade on yellowfin tuna, and even southern bluefin in Victoria and Tasmania in recent months. Pelagic Pirates come in a veritable kaleidoscope of colours, and the skirts are long enough to accommodate two game hooks — without doubt the most secure hook configuration for tuna trolling. Black Pete Pelagic Pirates have enjoyed great success on small pelagic species, but now a larger version has been developed to appeal to larger game fish. The new design is 6 ½" long when rigged with those excellent Billmark skirts, and there’s now a choice of a bullet head design capable of handling greater trolling speeds and tracking deeper, or a cup face for increased surface action. The bullet weighs 175 grams and the cup face 127 grams. The new Pelagic Pirates are available either rigged or unrigged with single or double hooks, and a vast range of colour options, depending on the buyer’s wishers.
